The Koryuji Temple is the oldest temple in Yamashiro, Kyoto. It is said to have been founded in 603 and is one of seven large temples in Japan constructed by prince Shotoku (573-621). Behind the Joguoin is the Shin-Reihoden (the treasure hall) where a variety of valuable statues of the Buddha are stored including one famous wooden statue of the Miroku-Bosatsu dating from the Asuka Period (552-645). It was designed as a national treasure in 1951, becoming the first designated national treasure in Japan.(Source: the brochure of the Koryuji Temple)
